TEC Delighted With Sector’s Response
The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has received over 98% of the Charters and Profiles that were due from the TEC funded tertiary education organisations on 30 September 2003.
“This is the first year tertiary education organisations have been required to submit a Charter and we are delighted with the sector’s positive response. We recognise the considerable amount of time and energy that every tertiary education organisation has invested in preparing and developing their Charter,” said Pauline Marshall, Steering and Integrated Funds Project Director.
“We are particularly pleased with the response from the tertiary education institutions (Universities, Wananga, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education) and the larger Private Training Establishments (PTEs) and Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) who were also required to submit an interim Profile this year.”
Charters and Profiles are two important tools that will help bring the Tertiary Education Strategy alive, and bring about medium and long-term change in the tertiary education system. A Charter sets out a tertiary education organisation’s distinctive role in the tertiary education system and a Profile sets out the basis on which funding will be sought.
“Charters are now being assessed and where required we will discuss with the individual TEOs. We expect to complete all assessments and make our recommendation to Steve Maharey, Associate Education (Tertiary Education) Minister, in late November 2003.”
“The Associate Minister will then advise the
organisations of the outcome of their Charter assessment,
including whether their Charter has been approved and if so
for how long,” she
said.
