Closure of Carich Training Centre Raises Questions

“Closure of Carich Training Centre Raises Questions”

“The announcement today that Carich Training Centre is closing its doors, despite the sector being heavily regulated, is disappointing,” said Sandra McKersey, President of the New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers.

“The effect on both students and staff will be devastating,” continued Mrs McKersey. “The closure of Carich negates a lot of the outstanding work done by other private providers.”

“Although Carich is not a member of NZAPEP, the Association, which is most concerned for students with uncompleted courses, has offered its assistance, and will be working with government agencies to ensure that students are able to complete their tertiary study.”

“NZAPEP will be interested to learn in due course whether the closure of Carich is as a result of failure of the regulatory processes or is because of other factors beyond the control of government agencies,” said Mrs McKersey. “It is however, understood that the student fee indemnification scheme required of private providers has at least ensured that student fees are protected.”

NZAPEP is committed to quality education and also to quality management of financial affairs. The Association believes that every provider has an obligation to ensure that funds are available for staffing, resources, and to complete the education that has been promised.”
