Inaugural Polytechnic Blues Awards
The first ever Otago Polytechnic Blues Awards were awarded to the following recipients at last night's annual OP Sports Institute dinner, by OPSA President, Michelle Watt, and OPSA's Sports Representative, Graeme Egan.
Dean Rask for achievement in Power Lifting - Dean is studying for his Diploma in Sports Management and Coaching. He is an extremely active member of the Otago Weightlifting Assn. Apart from his own personal achievements and records, he plays an active role in coaching and development of other members and prospective members. He holds the New Zealand and South Island records in many power-lifting events and is the current Oceania champ, along with a list of achievements that would take pages to list.
Claire Richardson for achievement in Rugby - Claire comes from Wairoa, in the Hawks Bay. She is aged 19 and is studying for her Diploma in Sporting Performance Level 5. In 2000 - 2003 she has been a member of the University Blues team, and is a member of Otago Women's Spirit Team. She was named in the NZ Black Ferns Team in October 2003.
Susan Green for achievement in Ice Hockey -
Susan is aged 19 and is studying for a Certificate in
Sporting Performance Level 3, from Lake Tekapo. She has
represented Otago in the Southern Ice Hockey League from
1998 and the NZ National team since 1999 and has been a
member of the NZ Women's Ice Hockey Team since 1999. This
year she is playing in the local competitions and is a
member of the Southern Women's regional team and assistant
coach to the North 9th grade team.
