Gammar students to tackle 40 flight Vero stairs

Gammar students to tackle Vero stairs - all 40 flights!

Students from Epsom Girls Grammar School and Auckland Boys Grammar School are doing a different famine this Saturday [20 March], one that will leave them gasping and with trembling knees!

Approximately 100 keen students will tackle the 40 flights of stairs at the Vero Centre in Shortland Street, the distinctive tall building with the half open 'lid' on the top. They will be raising money for World Vision's 40 Hour Famine, on this weekend (19 -21 March).

"The girls came up with the idea themselves," says Jane Grant, teacher in charge of the 40 Hour Famine at EGGS. "Many of them are too busy to go 40 hours without food and they wanted an alternative that was still going to challenge them, and they thought this would be a great idea. I don't know if they'll still think so at the end of the day!"

Groups of 10 students at a time will do the stair challenge, which will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday.

"They're also distributing donation boxes to businesses in the building, so they hope to collect a good amount from these," says Mrs Grant.
