TEC Commissioners Thank Chair
TEC Commissioners Thank Chair
On behalf of the Tertiary Education Commissioners, Deputy Chair Kaye Turner today thanked Chair Dr Andrew West for his contribution to the organisation during his term in the office which ends on 16 April.
Commissioners met today and passed a vote of thanks for Dr West’s significant contribution to both the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and, previously, the Transition Tertiary Education Commission (TTEC).
“Dr West, as first Chair of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), has set the organisation on the way to sector delivery of the government’s Tertiary Education Strategy goals,” says Ms Turner.
“Under his leadership TEC has worked collaboratively with the sector to undertake the first assessment of research quality in tertiary education and this will provide the foundation for a new system for funding, rewarding and encouraging excellence in research – the Performance-Based Research Fund.
“In addition charters with individual tertiary education organisations have been successfully completed which outline each one’s unique contribution.
“It has also been very encouraging to see the significant growth in the numbers in industry training in the last year.
“Since TEC was formed, in January 2003, Dr West has worked to inform the sector, stakeholders and the community of the role of the TEC, its objectives and initiatives. This work has supported a better understanding of what the TEC is trying to achieve.
“The Commissioners recognise the significant contribution Dr West’s leadership has made to both the Commission and the tertiary education sector.
“We wish Dr West every success in his new role as
Chief Executive of AgResearch.
