Parent Teacher Association Annual Conference Nears
One of the roles of the NEW ZEALAND PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION is to bring to parents’ notice the things that are going on in Education in this country.
In recent months we have passed on information in our monthly newsletters and our magazine ‘Parent and School Today’ about:
* The Secondary Futures Initiative which is looking at the shape of our secondary system 10 – 15 years hence
* A Schooling Strategy – looking at the characteristics we want our young people to have when they leave school and the factors that we think are important to achieve this
* The numeracy and literacy initiatives
from the Ministry
The brochures making parents aware of
the internet traps – from NetSafe
* ERO visits in schools – what they are, how parents can be involved and many other topics.
We have also been most concerned about various situations which have arisen, such as The sudden announcement of an extra holiday for secondary students without any consultation with those most affected The poor increase in operations grants in the budget The extremely disastrous results of change to the Charities Act if this is to apply to schools – both PTAs and Boards of Trustees. School Closures and Mergers Parents will have a time to discuss these matters and learn more about them when we hold our
