New Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Appointed

A leading sports management specialist Shayne Quick – whose clients have included the Australian Rugby Union, the Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs league sides, and basketball team the Sydney Kings – has been appointed the new pro vice-chancellor (international) at Waikato University.

Dr Quick’s new role will include having responsibility for attracting international students to the university, building links with overseas universities and overseeing student exchanges.

He is currently the director of international programs for the Faculty of Business at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He is responsible for enhancing the Faculty's relationships with universities in Asia and Europe. He is also an adjunct Professor at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.

Among his many publications are his co-authored book Strategic Sport Marketing which is now in its second edition and has been published in three languages.

Dr Quick’s consultancy activities have included the Sydney Kings in the Australian National Basketball League; the Sydney Swans and the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League; the Australian and New South Wales Rugby Unions; IMG (Australian Motor Cycle Grand Prix) and the Houston Rockets in the NBA. He is also the past president of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand

His regular media contributions have included ABC Radio (Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin and Regional NSW), Terminal 3 TV Greece, ABC News, ABC-PM, Australia Talks Back, Life Matters, UTS – 2SER, Background Briefings (RN), UTS News, Mosman Daily, The Sydney Morning Herald, Yomiuri Shimbun, The Daily Telegraph, News (2BL), and News (RN).

Dr Quick takes up his new appointment at Waikato in mid-January 2005.
