NZQA enters final stage of top scholar process

NZQA enters final stage of top scholar process

The New Zealand Qualifications Authority says more than 400 scholars have been notified that they will receive substantial monetary awards for their success at school last year.

There are a number of different awards for scholars.

The two students to be named the country's best scholars for 2004 have been decided and notified.

A further four students who achieved outstanding performance in three New Zealand Scholarship subjects have been notified of their success.

Top subject scholar awards have also been decided and most notified.

The names of award recipients will be released prior to a ceremony at Government House in Wellington on 15 April.

There are also awards for students who came top in their school. About 220 schools have at least one student eligible for a school award and all but 15 of these recipients have been identified and contacted. Fifteen awards are yet to be decided and in these cases, NZQA has asked the schools to provide more information.

Financial awards for students achieving scholarship with outstanding performance in one and two subjects have also been notified of their success.

All level 3 students being awarded distinction certificates have been advised that they will receive a certificate.
