Plenty of students available for work over the semester break

Student Job Search is looking forward to the end of semester one, with plenty of students returning home from university to seek work in the Hawkes Bay or having their holidays from the Eastern Institute of Technology. Most students have approximately four weeks off from their studies before they return to their courses in early/mid July (depending on the institution they are training at).

For most students, the period of time between semesters is a valuable opportunity to attain work in order to assist themselves financially throughout their second semester. This work may come in the form of a couple of hours work, a few days, or even the whole four weeks.

Student Job Search welcomes work for tertiary students and offers a ‘three hours for thirty three dollars’ incentive. Three hours work is often a fitting way of helping a student and getting some domestic activities done quickly and easily. Some of our students in past holidays have done jobs such as; house cleaning, gardening (this includes complete clearing of back sections); cleaning, data entry, and pretty much anything that has been put off or avoided around the house!

“Part-time in-term work is now a feature of student life and many students need to work all year around to stay at university or polytechnic” Mr Dowell, Regional Manager Manawatu, said. “The money students earn both in summer and during study is an important part of their overall income support.” The mid-year break is another valuable time of the year to help support students.

Student Job Search is a non profit organisation, which is funded by both student associations and government through the Ministry of Social Development, and provides a free service to both students and employers alike. “Students gained over $70 million dollars in the last twelve months through work obtained through Student Job Search” said Mr Dowell.
