Ministry of Education – Teach Some Real Virtues
Christian Heritage NZ leader Ewen McQueen has called on the Ministry of Education to teach some real virtues. Responding to a report in which the Ministry proposes a list of values to be included in the school curriculum, McQueen noted,
“This is clearly the construct of a bunch of liberal bureaucrats who don’t seem to recognise the difference between real virtues, and political slogans dressed up as values. I mean what does “diversity” and “environmental sustainability” actually mean and how relevant are they to how we want schoolchildren to behave?”
The CHNZ leader said the Ministry of Education should instead be looking to the foundational Judeo-Christian virtues that have been a moral lighthouse to our culture for centuries. He said
“I think there would be huge community support for teaching our children some basic virtues, like honesty, diligence, respect for authority and abstinence. That’s really what parents want.”
