Useful ideas in United Future education policy

"United Future has released useful policy ideas in the apprenticeship and wider Industry Training area", said Darel Hall Executive Director of the Industry Training Federation.
"Expanding the range of industries that can participate in industry training is a laudable goal. There are some industries such as Information Technology industry where ITOs are beginning engagement but extra resources may provide the spur to greater involvement.
"Increasing the number of Modern Apprenticeships has been a long standing United Future policy. This policy shows an appreciation of the demand for these places in the overall tertiary education commitment the new government must make.
"The most innovative policy is the trial for owner-operators. Currently industry trainees must be employees. This means an Industry Training Organisation can support the workers but not the owners in a business. In small businesses, for example farms, this does not make sense.
"There are some useful policy ideas in the United Future policy statement", said Darel Hall.
