The Edge & AUT Offer Back Stage Access
AUCKLAND, May 5, 2006 - Applications are now being sought for a two-week programme offering students the opportunity to gain stage crew experience in the entertainment industry.
The Introduction to Entertainment Technology course is a joint initiative between Auckland University of Technology (AUT) and THE EDGE which manages Aotea Centre, Auckland Town Hall, The Civic and Aotea Square.
Topics covered by the course include theatre etiquette, lighting, sound, audio visual, staging and safety issues. The next course runs July 3 to 14. Applications close Friday 19th May.
THE EDGE Director, Operations, Tim Dowson, said the course provided people with an interest in working in the entertainment industry with hands-on experience. To ensure quality, personal instruction, the course is limited to 30 students per intake.
"This course provides people who have an interest in working back stage at some of the country's most professional venues with extremely valuable hands-on experience and a rare opportunity to learn from the entertainment industry's best stage crews," said Mr Dowson. "Students who successfully complete the course are immediately employable as casual workers at THE EDGE."
Course hours are Mon-Fri, 8.30am to 5.30pm. Students must be at least 17 years of age. Applications and cost details are available from www.aut.ac.nz or phone Helen Franklin (09) 921 9702 for more information.
