Prime Ministerial Acknowledgement Of ITP Teaching

The Institutes of Technology & Polytechnics of NZ is delighted that two of its members’ academic staff have been awarded teaching excellence awards including the Prime Minister’s Supreme Award.

Karl Dodds from Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology collected the Supreme Award for his practical and innovative teaching of maths, physics and computing. Karl thoroughly understands the learning process and his passion for his subjects, his students and their learning sets him apart.

Peter Murphy from Palmerston North’s UCOL was acknowledged for his stand-alone interactive learning packages in nursing science. His new approach to delivery and assessment, built around a series of modules, is delivered individually in class and individually assessed.

Executive Director, Martin Eadie, says the two awards recognise the high quality of teaching being done at ITPs around the country.

The wins also highlight the differentiating factors of an ITP education, which focuses on producing job ready graduates and a more student-focused style of teaching across a variety of types of students.
