Did you know that August 14th – 20th is PTA Week?

Well, you may have a Parent Support Group, or a Friends of the School, or a Home and School – they all are there for the same purpose no matter what their name - or a group by any other name which supports their children in particular and the school in general.

During this week in August – celebrate these wonderful people – pamper them – thank them – recognize them at an assembly – send home a special something for them.

Parent support groups are more than just fund-raisers – they are often the glue that holds the school and the community together.

CELEBRATE!!!!

This year we also offer to your PTA/Parent Group our new programme – ‘Give Me Five’ to increase the number of volunteers in the school and the number of parents who are fully involved in their children’s education and thus can support our hard working, wonderful teachers.

‘Give Me Five’ is a promise, a promise from parent to child and a promise from parent to school or centre. By signing a promise card, parents commit to giving five hours of their time to the school or centre. Whether parents help to make resources, read to children volunteer for a fundraising event, or attend a PTA meeting, every act of involvement is important. By implementing the Give Me Five programme, schools and centres also commit finding worthwhile activities that allow all parents and family members to participate.

Through volunteering, Give Me Five links to all aspects of a successful parent and whanau involvement programme and provides the first step towards a stronger partnership between home and school.
