New funding for next year’s foundation learning programmes
Almost $16 million has been awarded to over 90 foundation learning providers through the 2007 round of Foundation Learning Pool funding, Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) announced today.
The funding is for 271 programmes to be delivered throughout the country.
“I am pleased by the number of programmes that are targeted at improving literacy, numeracy and language skills amongst particular groups of people including Māori, Pacific peoples, refugees and migrants,” TEC Steering and Investment Group Manager Clare Ward says.
“Giving a wide cross section of people the opportunity to improve their reading, writing and mathematics skills has an important role to play in improving the quality of their lives as a whole, and their employment prospects.
The Foundation Learning Pool is managed by the TEC. The funding is targeted directly at courses for people with low literacy, numeracy and language skills who are currently not accessing formal learning programmes.
