Wellington Student Presented With $10,000 Mike Pero Scholarship
Mike Pero has presented Bishop Viard College student Christopher Blackford with the inaugural Mike Pero Mortgages Foundation Scholarship, worth $10,000.
Christopher Blackford won a $10,000 head start to his tertiary education after being named the overall winner of the 2007 Mike Pero Scholarship Programme earlier this month.
The presentation was made at the Porirua, Wellington school¹s Annual Prize Giving ceremony in front of around 500 students, teachers and parents.
Christopher Blackford will use the scholarship money to put towards his Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology at Victoria University.
The Mike Pero Mortgages Foundation Scholarship Programme was a nationwide initiative open to all New Zealand citizens, aged between 17 and 25, embarking on their first year of tertiary study.
The Scholarship Programme had only planned to make only one award in its inaugural year but due to the high calibre of applications, two additional awards of $2500 have been awarded. These were to Devon Latoa of Waitakere City (Auckland) and Tamara Poi of Timaru.
The Scholarship was the first programme launched by the recently formulated Mike Pero Foundation, which has been created by Mike Pero Mortgages to deliver programmes that will benefit the community.
Applicants were required to complete an application form detailing their academic, cultural and community achievements and interests as well as their intended course of study and why they had chosen it.
