2007 “Magic Places” Launched
The 2007 edition of “Magic Places”, the adult's guide to young children's artwork, was launched at the New Zealand Playcentre Federation Conference in Rotorua at the weekend. The popular book has been rewritten, and illustrations updated, and includes a particular focus on outdoor experiences for children.
“Magic Places begins with the things that won't change,” said author Pennie Brownlee, explaining the focus of the book. “All children, no matter what part of the world they are from, are born with an innate ability to be creative. It's almost like it is coded into them.
“This book shows how a child's parent or teacher can allow this creativity to unfold, and how they can support the child in their learning, without directing or stifling it”, said Pennie Brownlee.
“Magic Places”, published by NZ Playcentre Publications, has long philosophically influenced the way Playcentre parents view children's creativity. It is available from Playcentre shops nationwide, and retails at $14.95. Or visit www.playcentre.org.nz for more information.
