Open Polytechnic lecturer receives top scholarship
Robert Shaw, a senior lecturer in management at The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, has been awarded a top scholarship to pursue his doctoral research in education by The Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia.
Mr Shaw is one of two recipients to receive the AUD $10,000 scholarship, the other going to an Australian academic.
Announcing the scholarships Society president Dr John Ozolins from the Australian Catholic University said, "We selected two outstanding scholars who presented very different approaches to the philosophy of education".
"Mr Shaw's project is a challenge to current Western school practices and has enormous potential for introducing new ways of thinking into school teaching," Professor Ozolins said.
Aside from his work as a lecturer with the distance education specialist, Mr Shaw is also a Porirua City Councillor. His doctoral study is supervised by Professor Robin Small at the University of Auckland.
The Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia was founded in 1971 to advance professional, academic research in the philosophy of education.
