Mike Pero Mortgages Offers 2008 Scholarships

After the success of last year's inaugural Mike Pero Foundation Scholarship Programme, Mike Pero Mortgages is offering another three tertiary education scholarships, worth $10,000, $5000 and $2500, for first-year tertiary students.

"We are very pleased to announce we are accepting applications during July and August from young people planning to begin a full-time course of tertiary study for the first time in 2008," says Jeff Staniland, Chief Executive Officer at Mike Pero Mortgages.

"The scholarship programme last year attracted a very high standard of applicants from all around the country and we expect a similar response this year."

The scholarships are open to prospective first-time tertiary students aged between 17 and 25. Any recognised programme of full-time tertiary study will be considered.

"We recognise the importance of tertiary education to young New Zealanders and believe it is vital in helping to prepare them to enter our increasingly knowledge-based economy," says Jeff Staniland.

"We also recognise the cost of tertiary study can be a challenge for students and their families - in some cases it may even be the reason someone does not attend university or polytech.

"The Mike Pero Foundation scholarship will help remove barrier for at least three talented young students and is another way Mike Pero Mortgages is helping the communities it works in," concludes Jeff Staniland.

Last year's scholarship winner
Christopher Blackford from Bishop Viard College in Wellington was awarded a $10,000 scholarship in 2006 for the 2007 year and is now studying for a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology at Victoria University. Christopher impressed the panel last year with his high academic ability and his leadership potential, combined with a wide range of other activities including music, sport and community involvement. Christopher is enjoying the busy university life this year and is achieving good results to date. He is also considering post-graduate study.

Applications
Applications for the 2008 Mike Pero Foundation Scholarship Programme are open from Monday July 2 until Friday August 31, 2007. Application forms are available online at www.mikepero.co.nz .

The successful recipients will be announced in October.
