Just Juice Scholarship Awards Dinner held in Auckland last night
Twenty outstanding intermediate school students
were recognised for their efforts in the 2007 World Vision
40 Hour Famine at the World Vision/Just Juice Scholarship
Awards Dinner, held at Alexandra Park in Auckland last night
(July 12).
The students represent 20 intermediate schools from around New Zealand that made significant fundraising efforts in the 2007 World Vision 40 Hour Famine.
Each student was presented with a personal award, as well as an award for their school, by World Vision CEO, Lisa Cescon; Tamara Jones, Assistant Brand Manager - Just Juice and Nicky Dance, Marketing Manager- Juice of Frucor Beverages Group.
The 20 scholars have spent the week in Auckland (July 9-13), for the World Vision/ Just Juice Intermediate Scholarship week. They were selected by their schools on the basis of their Famine efforts and their leadership abilities.
Over the course of the week, the scholars have had some unique learning opportunities, combining global education with social and cultural activities.
The World Vision/Just Juice Intermediate Scholarship Programme aims to inspire the students to take an interest in global development issues, and develop talented young New Zealand leaders who can extend that passion and knowledge to their peers when they return home.
The students have met World Vision staff and listened to talks on subjects such as poverty awareness. They have been on fun group trips to the movies and ten-pin bowling, in recognition of their fundraising efforts.
On Wednesday, July 11, the group toured TVNZ, and were able to sit at the One News desk and explore the Studio 2 set. The group met newsreader Simon Dallow, sports reporter Toni Street, and Studio 2 presenters Vicki and Jordan.
World Vision has raised over $2.5million from this year’s 40 Hour Famine, which was held in March.
