Westpac Team McCaw on the hunt for young sports stars
Richie McCaw today announced he would team up with Westpac New Zealand to find New Zealand’s most inspiring and dedicated sporty kid, whether it’s on the netball court, the hockey field or in the water polo pool.
Schools are being asked to circulate information to get sports teams to nominate a team-mate with a great attitude by writing 100 words or less about them by 31 July. The sporty winner will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a one-on-one session with the famous rugby player, as well as win a training run for their team.
This community competition forms a key part of Richie’s partnership with Westpac, announced in June this year, and he says he is excited about the project.
“I can’t wait to meet this person who really gives 100 per cent to their team. It’s been a real eye opener for me in my role as a leader of my team, and I really hope I can help some children in their sporting careers by sharing a few pearls of wisdom, as well as having a good run around with them.
“I think I’m a pretty fair hand at most sports, and certainly the principles of leading and inspiring are the same, whether it’s football, hockey or netball. I’m really looking forward to meeting some great Kiwi kids.”
The training sessions will take place before Richie’s departure for the World Cup in late August.
