2008 Whanganui UCOL Summer School of the Arts
2008 Whanganui UCOL Summer School of the
Arts
A creative line-up of workshops is planned for
the 2008 Whanganui UCOL Summer School of the Arts, which is
on 6-12 January 2008. The Summer School of the Arts is the
most innovative and exciting summer school currently
operating in New Zealand.
Some new workshops have been added for 2008 on music and garden and interior design. Summer School Coordinator Katrina Langdon said this is all part of keeping the summer school experience fresh and exciting for those participants who come every year. Workshops are based on painting, print making, sculpture, glass, jewellery, mosaics, fibre and fabric, music, interior and garden design.
The week promises to be one of creative interaction, fun and community spirit for all participants. Wanganui has a long and supportive history with the arts and this is reflected in the Summer School through passionate people, renowned and inspirational tutors/artists and an exciting, social and encouraging environment.
Participants have the opportunity to share their artistic ideas with others. There is also a programme of evening lectures by Summer School tutors.
All workshops will be at Wanganui Girls College with the exception of glass which will be Whanganui UCOL’s Main Campus. Katrina said that the facilities at the Girls College are well suited to Summer School activities.
Sandy Dobbin, Chair of the Akoranga Education Trust, which sponsors the Summer School said the annual event has proved to be an outstanding success over the years, attracting widespread support and lecturers of high calibre.
Enrolments are open and Katrina said that many people enrol within the first week, with popular classes filling up quickly. People interested in more information can contact the Information Centre at Whanganui UCOL, phone 0800 GO UCOL, or check out details on www.ucol.ac.nz.
