Top Sports Scientists To Speak At WINTEC

Dr. Kevin Tipton, senior lecturer in Exercise Metabolism in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at The University of Birmingham is to speak at Wintec's School of Sport & Exercise Science at the Avalon Drive Campus in Hamilton on Monday 12, November 2007 12:00 - 2:00pm. The presentation is free to those in the industry and to the public.

Formerly Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, his research focuses on exercise, nutrition and muscle metabolism in humans with emphasis on protein nutrition and metabolism.

Tipton has published more than forty papers in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and is a sought-after international speaker. Dr Tipton serves on the Editorial Boards of the International Journals of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and Sports Physiology and Performance. He has been a Visiting Scientist at the Australian Institute of Sport and on the International Olympic Committee for Sports Nutrition Consensus.

He is an Associate Editor for Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism and serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance. He recently served on the National Academy of Science's, Institute of Medicine, Committee for Military Nutrition Research.

His interest in exercise science extends to the application of the science to athletic populations. He was the Sports Nutrition adviser for the Athletic Department at Auburn University and recently served as a Visiting Scientist at the Australian Institute of Sport in the Department of Sports Nutrition, for the International Olympic Committee on the IOC Sports Nutrition Consensus Conference committee, the FIFA and IAAF Sports Nutrition Consensus Conference committees and the UK Sport Nutritional Supplements Advisory Board. He also has coached and served as fitness and nutrition advisor for amateur soccer and rugby clubs.
