Parents get to ask UCOL the big questions

UCOL is giving parents an opportunity to get first hand information about their children’s future study plans.

In a new initiative, the Universal College of Learning is holding Parents Information Evenings at its Palmerston North campus and at Whanganui UCOL this month.

Team Leader – External Relations, Danette Whitehouse, says parents often have many questions they want to ask – but may not get the opportunity. “Above all, they will want to be assured that at UCOL, we do go out of our way to look after their children.

“That includes access to health and counselling services, and to learning support, including the PEPS scheme that helps students chose the right study programme for them. We also provide valuable study support for students at our campuses.”

“We know that our student services are second to none – and we want to make sure parents know that as well.”

Danette says parents also want to know about financial aspects, including student loans and allowances, associated with starting a course of study. “So we have arranged for representatives of StudyLink, the Government agencies that administers loans and allowances, to be available to answer questions.

“Student Job Search and the student association AS@U will also be on hand, as well as UCOL staff members at the Palmerston North evening. At Whanganui, UCOL Career Services will attend, along with Study Link and UCOL Support staff.”

Danette says parents will be advised that encouraging their children to study close to home, rather at other, far away centres, makes much more sense financially.

The Palmerston North Parents Information Evening will be held in the Information Centre at the UCOL campus between 5 and 6.30pm on Wednesday 28 November.

The Whanganui Parents Information Evening will be held at the Information Centre at the UCOL campus from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday 28 November.

Tea and coffee will be served at both events.
