Open Polytechnic led project scoops award

A ground-breaking eLearning project led by The Open Polytechnic has been selected to represent New Zealand at a global competition in the United States next year.

The New Zealand Open Source Virtual Learning Environment project (NZOSVLE) won the New Zealand heat of the Learning Impact Awards at the Summit on Innovation on Learning Technology in Queenstown.

The project, which received $1.5m in funding from the Tertiary Education Commission, has helped reduce the entry barriers to eLearning for a variety of educational and governmental organisations in this country.

It will now compete on the worldwide stage at the IMS Global Learning Impact Awards to be held in Austin, Texas in May next year.

The Polytechnic’s winning entry was up against a number of other eLearning projects from tertiary institutions around New Zealand at the award ceremony which was hosted by the Ministry of Education and the IMS Global Learning Consortium.

The project also recently received a special category award at the New Zealand Open Source Awards.
