Partnership to benefit students and environment
Students and environment to benefit from new partnership
Even more Bay of Plenty students are getting the chance to become part of a generation that thinks and acts sustainably, thanks to a new partnership in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
Environment Bay of Plenty, coordinators of the Enviroschools programme in the Bay of Plenty, has signed a partnership agreement with Eastbay REAP which will allow the programme to be delivered to more schools in the region.
The agreement is a first for the Bay of Plenty, and means facilitators from other organisations will deliver the Enviroschools programme.
Environment Bay of Plenty education team leader Kerry Gosling says it’s a great step forward for the programme and the regional council.
“The Enviroschools programme is already active in more than 50 schools throughout the region – reaching at least 16,000 students. This partnership will allow us to increase that number, so more students will learn how to live and act sustainably. We want it to be something they just do, not something they have to think twice about.”
Enviroschools is a whole-school approach to environmental education. It teaches students to create a sustainable school environment by incorporating actions into all parts of school life.
Eastbay REAP CEO Jacqui Hughes says the partnershipis another in a long-standing working relationship that will see both organisations’shared resources broaden the education of eastern Bay students.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to really make a difference in the long term sustainability of the planet through our youth,” she said.
