Katherine Rich sad loss to National – PPTA

The resignation of National MP Katherine Rich will be a sad loss to the education sector, PPTA President Robin Duff says.

Ms Rich brought a pragmatic and principled approach to the education portfolio and was committed to all young people, regardless of their background, Mr Duff said.

“We were impressed with her willingness to fight the divisive bulk-funding policy, her commitment to rural schools and her support for programmes like the Itinerant Teachers of Music, which provides music tuition for young people in rural areas, a group the present Government seems to have forgotten about,” he said.

The PPTA looked forward to working with Anne Tulley and Allan Peachy as education spokesperson and associate education spokesperson.

“We hope they will continue Katherine’s policy of building relationships within the sector and looking for collaborative solutions, rather than focusing on ideological answers,” he said.

“We’d like to thank Katherine for her efforts to date and wish her the very best for the future”.
