Whitireia Arts Area Celebrates

A new (refitted) home in the ex Mana Education Centre; a highly successful fashion and music event as the core ofRed Hot From New Zealand in The Philippines; new international relationships and the graduation of the first cohort in an innovative Bachelor in Applied Arts.

The Arts at Whitiriea has early reason to celebrate in 2008.

To an invited audience, presentations and performances are going to capture the moment and share these successes on Tuesday 6 May in the new Arts home on the Porirua Campus.

The programme includes a screening of edited highlights of the fashion show and DJ performance tour in the Philippines. Whitireia Performing Arts will debut an experimental set of dance pieces, Hinemoana Baker as well as DJ Raw are performing musical sets and Cathy Livermore will perform a contemporary dance piece.

Present will be New Zealand Ambassador to The Philippines David Pine, Philippines Ambassador to New Zealand Te Jano and Porirua Mayor Jenny Brash.

“Staff and students have been working extremely hard within their area of arts practice and it is fitting that we celebrate this success with a vibrant event” says Kaye Jujnovich, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Communications.

“I am pleased to host an occasion that acknowledges the successes of Whitireia tutors like Deborah Donnelly (Kapiti Coast) who developed the fashion show in the Philippines, Cathy Livermore who is a long term member of Atamira dance troupe, Tuaine Robati and his performing arts students and DJs Raw and Shan who are exceptional musical producers.”
