New Industry Training Centre
New Industry Training Centre
Opens 9 July, 10am at Mohuia Cres Porirua.
The Industry Training Centre provides the first step into trades training, in plumbing and gas-fitting, in carpentry, in electrical engineering, automotive engineering and drainlaying. The centre takes candidates with little or no experience and prepares them for work and further training by the industries they choose.
Minister for Tertiary Education, The Hon Pete Hodgson, is opening the centre on 9 July. This follows a significant refit of the facility into specialised teaching and learning workshops.
"These courses step to Industry Training Organisations' programmes. It is a collaborative approach to training that bridges the gaps between schools and industry says Faculty Dean Stephen Wickens. The students learn great skills, specified by industry and tailored to their needs, nationally."
It's a great time to pick up a trade, this centre aims for effective skills building to meet employment shortages. It prepares candidates for work based training with Industry Training Organisations. It's a fast pathway towards work.
"This campus was at one time a Post and Telegraph depot says Chief Executive Don Campbell - in fact back then the government would have been not only a major employer but also a major trainer of apprentices. No doubt a large number of trades people learned their trade right here at that time. This facility will succeed and support the region because it moves students quickly into industry environments."
