Get Ready To Open Your Lunch Pack
PRESS RELEASE
Get Ready To Open Your Lunch Pack
New Zealand Book Month (NZBM) – September - is our national book campaign, championing great New Zealand books for all New Zealanders. We believe there is a taste of kiwi writing available to suit every imagination and for the first time we’re asking our schools to help prove it!
This year NZBM is launching a youth campaign for Primary and Intermediate schools with an interview and review competition, online and live! The Lunch Pack is an interactive web-based competition that lets our kids tell us what they think of kiwi writing and writers in their own voices through video and audio casting (video Mpegs, pod casts etc), and simple text.
In collaboration with the Storylines Children’s Literature Trust, we’ll be picking the top 25 kiwi kids books and asking classes and kids across the country to tell us what they think. Children and classes will be able to send in their reviews via their choice of media option to the special NZBM kids website. www.kids.nzbookmonth.co.nz
We’re also working with The New Zealand Book Council Writers in Schools program, so we’re looking for great interviews of writers too. Interviews run by kids, for kids.
Then during Library Week – 18-24th August, NZBM will launch the Top 25 great kiwi books for kids, and The Lunch Pack competition will go live! All the entries emailed to NZBM will be viewable on the website – kids can see themselves reviewing, interviewing and enjoying New Zealand books all over the country.
There’s already interest from teachers and students in classrooms all over New Zealand and we’re expecting record numbers of participation throughout September: thousands of kids across the country, interviewing, reviewing and then seeing themselves online in action.
To reward all that hard work NZBM and Books in Homes will be hosting The Lunch Pack Prize-giving on the 24th September. It’s proudly supported by the Vodafone New Zealand Warriors, TV personalities, musicians, the Prestige Hip Hop dance crew and a bunch of other celebrities - providing top kiwi kids with full lunch packs of kiwi writing! Not only that but some lucky schools will win the chance to have their Books in Homes celebrity assembly at the Prize giving. With all that activity there’ll be about 500 kids there celebrating reading kiwi! It’s a great chance to see what sort of reading is in the lunch pack of every school in New Zealand and it’s a great way to inspire kiwi kids to get reading!
