Not too late to apply for Whitireia Scholarships

It is not too late to apply for Whitireia secondary school scholarships.

Whitireia Community Polytechnic is offering up to three $4000 scholarships per school to schools from the Wellington North to Kapiti region, for the second year running in 2009. Schools have been offered up to three scholarships, and the recipients will be chosen internally by school management where more than three students have applied. Scholarships are offered to full time students, currently at secondary school, who want to study full time at Whitireia in either a multi year Diploma or Degree, or in a Certificate in one of the Trades programmes offered in 2009.

Last year was the first year Whitireia had offered these scholarships, and eleven students were successful recipients. They are currently studying at Whitireia in a number of diverse programmes; from Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Teaching, Nursing, Performing Arts and Applied Arts (Visual), to Diplomas in Business and Hospitality Management.

“There are not as many students in classes as a university and you get to have a one-on-one session with the tutor” says one of last year’s recipients Michelle Kie, who is well on target with completing her NZ Diploma in Business. Says another successful recipient, Jasmine Leota, of her experience, “It’s challenging, pushes me to the limits, but really its a great learning experience across the cultures”.

Application forms are available from all eligible schools Career Advisors. Applications for 2009 close 15th October. Students must also meet the specific criteria for the chosen programme. For more information on course criteria or scholarships, visit our Website or call 0800 WHITIREIA.
