Award For
Wintec Hairdressing And Beauty Therapy
Wintec’s Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy has been awarded Best Practice Moderation Status for all of its Hairdressing Programmes by the Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation (HITO).
Head of the Wintec School of International Tourism, Hospitality and Events Sara Refoy said the annual quality assurance moderation acknowledged constant qualified staffing, the quality of material used for assessment and teaching.
“We are also requested to submit pre assessment and post assessment material which is moderated annually.
The professional development of our staff is tracked to ensure they are up to standard in all areas. This means that our teaching staff also spend time working in industry to make sure their knowledge and practices are current,” she said.
“The awarding of this status is down to the continual hard work of the hairdressing tutors, and in particular Penni Warner the Programme Manager. They have achieved well in ensuring all practical and theory assessments are of a high standard and managed the moderation process and quality assurance visits, working collaboratively with the Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation.”
Other areas that are looked at to award this status are minimal changes to the staffing within the department, tutors have meet all adult education requirements and additional activities such as an induction plan for new tutors. Tutors have also been working towards gaining Literacy Qualifications to assist our students with their study needs.
The team of Hairdressing tutors deserve being awarded this status, it is reflective of the continual practice of delivery and assessment excellence over several years that has lead to achieving this status.
Earlier this year Wintec hairdressing tutor Julia Bruce, Hairdressing Tutor was one of ten tertiary teachers in the country to receive a Teaching Excellence Award from the Minister of Tertiary Education.
