100% Pass Rate For Wintec Midwifery Students
For the second successive
year Wintec Degree of Midwifery students have achieved a
100% pass rate.
Associate Head of School Midwifery &
Allied Health at Wintec, Nina Hill, said the result could be
attributed to an excellent industry advisory group strong
relationships with the Waikato DHB and the industry midwives
who supervise the students.
Mrs. Hill also reported an unprecedented interest in the three year degree.
“We are experiencing greater than ever interest in applying for the midwifery programme next year. Clearly many applicants are successfully stair casing into the degree from certificate in health and similar programmes with us. We are experiencing a surge in applications in our nursing degree as well.”
She said as with many other programmes at Wintec, many of those studying are mature students who go on to make a huge contribution in their chosen fields.
One such student is Sue Duncan who, having just successfully completed her Bachelor of Midwifery degree, has already joined a busy practice in Cambridge and has clients booked until August 2009.
Sue is also participating in the
increasingly popular first year mentoring programme for
practicing midwives. Formerly an ante-natal class teacher
and stay at home mother, Sue was keen to pursue a career in
midwifery to working with mothers and babies through the
entire childbirth process rather than just within the
classes.
She said the final exam was tough and she’s
very pleased the entire group of twenty-seven
passed.
