NZ consulting firm wins United Nations education contract

Consulting firm MartinJenkins has been chosen to run the ruler over the education strategies of UNESCO – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

The firm has won a significant contract to evaluate the performance of UNESCO’s education sector strategies. It will focus on how well UNESCO is doing in achieving ‘education for all’, one of its key priorities.

MartinJenkins director Nick Davis says in the current global recession it’s good to see New Zealand businesses succeeding in international tenders.

“Over the past four years we’ve worked to become one of UNESCO’s most trusted providers of research and evaluation services. This is the most significant project we’ve been awarded,” he said.

The project will take MartinJenkins researchers to Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. It follows an earlier project to evaluate UNESCO’s internationally-based education institutes.

Nick Davis says UNESCO’s work goes to the heart of some of the world’s biggest issues.

“As well as the ‘education for all’ movement, UNESCO is involved in global literacy and the challenges presented by HIV/Aids in delivering education in the developing world, particularly Africa.”

MartinJenkins’ final report from the evaluation will be available in the second half of 2009.
