Record enrolments for MBA
programme
Executives and business professionals are
looking for both competitive edge and flexible study options
to insulate their careers in this tight job market. Manukau
Institute of Technology has achieved record MBA enrolments
this trimester, more than doubling last years figures.
“The flexible nature of this programme works best with my heavy training and travel schedules,” says NZ Warriors Captain, Steve Price, who chose to complete his Masters at MIT.
That comes as no surprise to Dr Wayne Dreyer, NZ Director MBA/DBA at Manukau Institute of Technology.
“It is this flexibility and being able to take part in on-line discussions or conference calls from anywhere in the world that our students appreciate,” he says. “We put a lot of effort into supporting our students and that is one of the reasons the Southern Cross University MBA was rated 5 star, in 2008, for graduate satisfaction by the independent Australian publication “The Good Universities Guide”.
The Southern Cross University MBA in association
with Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) has over 140
students from Bluff to Whangarei currently taking advantage
of the flexible programme of supported distance
learning.
In addition to online tutorials and
tele-conferences, each subject taught is supported by 3 x 4
hour weekend workshops where interactive learning takes
place in a classroom setting.
“We do not insist that students give up their valuable family time in weekends to attend class and it is this ethos of operation that our students like,” says Dr Dreyer. “The only compulsory elements in our courses are the assignments and examinations.”
An MBA in its current mode is an applied business course taught and assessed at Masters level. The emphasis of the Southern Cross University MBA is on development of skills and knowledge that are readily transferable to the workplace and relevant to today’s globalised business.
“We find employers value this qualification. This is evident in the number of graduates finding progressive employment and in the increasing numbers of employees being sent to do the Southern Cross University MBA at MIT by their companies,” says Dr Dreyer.
To
complement the suite of professional programmes currently
available at Masters Level (MBA, Master of International
Business) in 2009 MIT offers the following new masters
programmes: MBA Advanced; Master of Professional Accounting;
Master of Supply Chain Management; Master of Technology
Management; and Master of Human Resources and Organisational
Development.
These degrees have common units with the MBA and then move into the individual specialisations.
The new degrees together with the current Doctor of Business Administration allow NZ executives a choice in their professional education.
