Fresh Future Appeal Launch

MEDIA RELEASE
TO: News Room
FROM: Michele Hider, Communications Manager DATE: Tuesday 4 August 2009

Subject: Fresh Future Appeal Launch

Sick children are set to benefit from the highly successful Fresh Future Appeal which is being launched next week.

Canterbury people are being asked to again support the campaign which last year raised $125,000 for Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) children’s services.

That was a share of the more than $1 million New Zealanders, including staff, customers and suppliers of Progressive Enterprises, raised in just eight weeks for sick children.

The funds went to dedicated children’s wards at 10 New Zealand hospitals including Christchurch Hospital, Dunedin, Waikato and Wellington Hospitals as well as Kidz First Children’s Hospital, Auckland.

Items bought by CDHB from last year’s appeal include a portable blood pressure machine for Neonatal Outreach, toys for the playroom, stethoscopes, and weighing scales, as well as special video cameras, software and specialist medical equipment.

The Appeal runs across Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, SuperValue, Fresh Choice, Dick Smith stores and support offices nationwide. Staff are again organising a range of fundraising activities.

CDHB Service Manager for Children's Health Anne Morgan says she is very grateful to the Fresh Future Trust and Progressive Enterprises’ staff for all the hard work they put into raising funds for Child Health.

To make a donation during the appeal, customers can place money in collection boxes or buy raffle tickets in stores. Online shoppers can add a $1 donation onto their shopping bill when they shop at www.foodtown.co.nz or www.woolworths.co.nz.
