New Generation of Journalists Provide News to the Nation
Newswire, a student generated daily news website, has become a leading source of news to New Zealand media, through a new direct feed to news aggregator, Scoop.
Jim Tucker, a prominent New Zealand journalist, is the Programme Manager for the Whitireia School of Journalism. The School offers a National Certificate in Journalism (Introductory) and a Diploma in Journalism (Multi Media) (Level 5).
Scoop co-editor Alastair Thompson approached the Newswire team in June 2009 after having kept an eye on NewsWire since it launched in July 2008. Impressed with what he saw Thompson requested that Newswire have a direct link to the Scoop website (which gets about half a million hits a month). As a result Newswire now do a weekly news digest for Scoop and Scoop are able to lift stories of interest directly from NewsWire.
“We have noticed a lift in page uploads since the connection in July, Newswire now gets nearly 20,000 uploads a month, last year it averaged around 10,000 a month, so we have doubled this year,” says Tucker.
