Auckland City Mayor Shows Support for Movember
Media Release 16 October 2009
Mayor John Banks encourages the
citizens of Auckland to get behind this year’s Movember
and help the city lead the way in its support for the
men’s charity.
Funds raised by Movember will be
donated to the Cancer Society of New Zealand in support of
prostate cancer and the Mental Health Foundation for its
‘Out of the Blue’ depression awareness campaign.
Over the past two years, almost 40,000 Kiwis have
taken part in Movember raising over $3 million in aid of
men’s health charities.
Mr Banks is glad to be
involved with the worthwhile cause and encourages all men to
be vigilant about their health by scheduling regular health
checkups.
“The Movember Foundation has done some
remarkable work to help New Zealand men become more open
about their health concerns and it’s important that the
charity receives the support it needs to continue this for
years to come," says Mr Banks.
Movember organiser Jim
Slattery says the dedicated support of both Aucklanders and
people around the country will help to make this year’s
event the most successful ever.
“Movember plays an
important role in helping men to not be complacent about
their health issues and to be proactive about seeking
medical help when needed.
“Growing a mo offers a fun
and creative way to get behind a very worthy charity in
support of these serious issues,” says Slattery.
