Large team from CORE Education off to Singapore
Ground-breaking work being delivered in New Zealand and international education has resulted in an invitation for a delegation of five CORE Education staff to deliver papers and run a student media team at a major Singapore-based educator conference.
Joining a strong New Zealand Trade & Enterprise-led presence at the International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology (iCTLT) at the start of March, the CORE Education group is delighted to have three papers accepted for presentation.
Papers include: “Recognising dimensions of culture in transforming learning and teaching with ICT” being presented by CORE Digital Media Production and Programme Manager Jedd Bartlett; “Leading change through a data-driven school development process” by CORE Director, e-learning Derek Wenmoth, Director, Research Dr Vince Ham and Australian educational consultant Dr Julia Atkin; and “Implementing a co-constructed 21st Century curriculum as a national project” being presented by Online Communities Manager Christina Ward.
Up to 50,000 educators from all over South East Asia will attend the conference. CORE Education has previously worked in this region with contracts in Malaysia and Thailand. It also currently provides Educator Tours to showcase NZ education to the Thai, Filipino and Singaporean markets.
“The iCTLT conference is a fantastic chance for CORE Education to show ASEAN countries our world-leading thinking around the use of technology in education. We’ll be presenting some papers ourselves, and together with other New Zealand educational organisations will be promoting educational tools and services,” says CORE’s General Manager Ali Hughes, who will be accompanying the presenters and following up on various potential opportubities in this growing market.
One exciting initiative being undertaken by CORE’s Jedd Bartlett in conjunction with New Zealander Jeremy Wilson, of Tentacle Media, is to develop a student media team to record and report the conference activities.
For the duration of the iCTLT conference, screens around the venue will display content produced by students from Singapore’s Innova Primary, a selection of content from other schools and general conference information.
Students from Innova Primary will be involved for the duration of the conference will work in small teams to provide coverage of the event; canvas opinion from attendees and exhibitors; take photos and record video interviews; and compile reports.
“They’ve never done this before at the iCTLT conference and as we’ve been running this type of student media activity at our annual ULearn conference for years, we know it’s beneficial for the students and for the conference participants. So we offered to set it up and run it,” Mr Bartlett says.
