UCOL Carpentry Graduates In Demand
UCOL Carpentry graduates have been snapped up by the Wairarapa building industry as soon as they have finished their studies.
Of
the nine Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) graduates from
the 2009 programme, eight are already employed, three of
them in apprenticeships.
Masterton-born Jason Jetson
found the one year UCOL carpentry course the perfect
opportunity to get qualifications in the building
industry.
“I have always been interested in construction,” says the nineteen year old. “and I was really pleased to be able to study locally at UCOL.”
Jason attributes the small class size and good mix of practical and theory based learning at UCOL as key factors in his success. “The programme is well regarded in the industry so it is a real ‘leg up’ into a new career,” he says.
Jason began his apprenticeship with major Masterton building contractor Rigg Zschokke in January. His advice to anyone considering studying carpentry at UCOL is to “Go for it. You will get a lot out of it, and probably a job!”
Jason and his eight classmates will graduate with a Certificate in Carpentry at UCOL Wairarapa’s Graduation ceremony on Thursday at the Masterton Town Hall.
