CORE Education Foundation eFellows announced

Six teachers each with a strong existing reputation for innovative practice and leadership in eLearning from around New Zealand have been selected as the inaugural CORE Education Foundation eFellows.

The eFellows are: Nathan Parker, Warrington School (Dunedin); Joel Dodd, Coastal Taranaki School (Okata, Taranaki); Margaret May, Greenhithe Kindergarten (North Shore); Puti Puti Gardiner, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Rangiawhia (Kaitaia); Tara Taylor-Jorgensen, Bairds Mainfreight Primary (Otara); and Florence Lyons, Matamata College (Cambridge).

Announcing the eFellows today, CORE Education Director of Research Vince Ham says the standard of applicants for this first year of the CORE Foundation eFellowships was excellent.

“We were really impressed by the calibre of teachers. These are people who are well recognised in their communities for the excellence of their teaching in an eLearning context,” Dr Ham says.

Recipients of the eFellowship Awards will be supported to take part in a series of teaching master classes during the year, conduct professional enquiries into innovative elearning practices in their schools, and the eFellows will provide ongoing, community-focused leadership in the field.

CORE Education is a not-for-profit research and education organisation which this year announced the eFellowships as part of its CORE Education Foundation.

CORE Education General Manager Ali Hughes says the organisation had been planning for some time to combine its various educational support activities under one banner.

"The Foundation will support these endeavours reflecting CORE’s charitable purposes. It’s important to us to return investment to the wider education sector to stimulate and support best practice and new educational development," she says.

These awards comprise:

• The CORE Education eFellowships

• Travel Award for a Teacher's contribution to Thought Leadership in Education (available June - July)

• Professional Learning Awards (available June - July)
