Teachers and leaders beat the budget
Twenty teachers from schools and early childhood education centres throughout New Zealand were recognised during a celebratory luncheon at Parliament today, an hour before the Budget reading and debate.
Education Minister, Hon Anne Tolley, presented regional awards to 12 ASG Excellence in Teaching recipients and eight Cognition Education Excellence in Leadership recipients.
NEiTA Foundation chairman, Mr Terry O’Connell, says the role of teachers has always been important, but never so much as it is today.
“NEiTA aims to identify and honour great teachers and the valuable role they play in the development of the nation’s youth. It also builds the status of the profession so as to encourage talented students to seriously consider teaching as a career, while using great teachers as models for others to follow and emulate,” says Mr O’Connell.
All 20 teachers and leaders today received specially designed plaques, together with prizes for their schools. The final phase of the awards process takes place in October when ten of these teachers and leaders will be presented with national awards and professional development grants. These awards will be presented in their local schools, giving their students and others in the school community the opportunity to celebrate.
The NEiTA awards are jointly supported by ASG Education Programs New Zealand, which assists parents to plan for their children’s future education, and Cognition Education, New Zealand’s leading independent educational services and consultancy provider.
