Northtec Welcomes Students For Semester Two Around The North

NorthTec welcomed new and returning students at well-attended pōwhiri, whakatau and orientation days around the region last week.

300 people attended a pōwhiri and orientation day at NorthTec’s main campus in Raumanga, Whangarei with more than 300 people taking part in similar events at NorthTec’s learning centres in Kaitaia, Rāwene and Kaikohe and its Bay of Islands campus in Kerikeri.

Students were welcomed by kaumātua and kuia, tutors and support staff and were provided with information on support services by NorthTec’s Student Success team. Student mentors also played a huge part in welcoming their fellow students at the pōwhiri and orientation day at the Raumanga campus. NorthTec student Koha Harrison and staff member Jacquie Walters provided live music at the Kaitaia learning centre.

More than 15 external providers of support services to students attended orientation day events around the region as part of the Student Success team’s programme with the National Bank sponsoring the orientation day BBQ at the Raumanga campus and Te Hau Ora providing meat for the BBQ at the Kaitaia learning centre.

“Enrolments are strong for the second semester at NorthTec and we are very pleased to welcome students who are pursuing their educational journey with us,” said NorthTec’s Director – Education Services, Lynda Mathey.

“We recognise that coming back to study or starting tertiary studies for the first time can be a bit daunting and we want all of our students to know that we have a team of people here at NorthTec who are committed to supporting their learning.”
