Learn new skills through the Open Source Lab

Learn new skills through the Open Source Learning Laboratory

A suite of new courses being offered by the Open Source Learning Laboratory will help upskill those already working in, or who want to work in, the fast moving world of open source.

Supported by tutors with specialist knowledge in the open source environment, all of the courses are taught online by distance through Eduforge.com.

There are six courses in total, including Moodle administration, developing courses in Moodle, technical documentation, open source in business, programming for open source software with PHP, and open source software development model.

The Flexible Learning Network, a leading developer of open source software, has been involved in the development of the Open Source Learning Laboratory.

“These courses have had the input of some of the leading experts in open source development and will help satisfy the increasing demand for skills across a wide range of open source areas”, says the Flexible Learning Network’s Richard Wyles.

Eduforge.com is operated by the Open Polytechnic, New Zealand’s specialist provider of distance learning and one of the largest polytechnics in the country.

Programme leader for the courses, Dr Elozor Shneider says they offer real world skills for people keen to press ahead on working with open source software. “Learners on the courses will learn how to work on open source applications in a collaborative environment. This approach will help students to efficiently develop useful skills and know-how in open source technologies which they can apply immediately to their own projects.” Enrolments for all six courses are open until 29th October and places are limited. The courses will begin on 1 November and run for 12 weeks.
