Students of Aoraki Polytechnic Receive their Certificates

Oamaru students of Aoraki Polytechnic receive their certificates and awards

After a year of work, study, exams and practical tests, it was time for students at Aoraki Polytechnic’s Oamaru campus to enjoy the fruits of their toil last week, with awards and certificates the order of the day at a graduation function in front of 240 civic guests, parents and polytechnic staff.

The Oamaru Opera House ceremony attended by Oamaru mayor Alex Familton and his wife Heather saw 163 students graduate, with 126 in attendance to receive their certificates.

Monique and Bevan Smith, of Riverstone Kitchen, winners of Cuisine Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year, were guest speakers.

Among honours for excellence, Chloe Ryder of Oamaru received the Beautician of the Year 2010 Award for Excellence for achievements in her Certificate in Beauty Treatments, Level 4 programme.

The Most Outstanding and Promising Airbrushing Student in 2010, and the winner of a $1000 scholarship for study at Aoraki Polytechnic from Resene Automotive and Performance Coating, was Dylan Armishaw, of Oamaru.

The Most Accomplished and Successful Airbrushing Student and the winner of a $500 cash prize was Shayne Stevenson, of Oamaru.

Both of these awards were presented by Mal Kendrew and Stewart Walker, manager of Resene Automotive and Performance Coatings, Timaru.
