Beauty Has a Home at UCOL

Beauty @ UCOL has a brand new home at the Palmerston North campus.

The 24 students of UCOL’s newly introduced Certificate in Beauty Services are the first to use the facility that boasts a spacious beauty treatment room, reception area and specialized manicure room.

The Certificate in Beauty Services encompasses the National Certificate in Cosmetology, the National Certificate in Nail Augmentation and the National Certificate in Beautician.

The 200 square metre facility has been custom designed and fitted to meet industry requirements and international training standards and is located on the ground floor of Block 1 on Princess Street.

The suite is a fully functioning clinic and during their training, the students will offer beauty and manicure services to UCOL staff, students and the public.

Associate Head of School of Tourism, Hospitality and Continuing Education Margot Ferrick says the vision of a dedicated Beauty programme and appropriately designed Beauty Suite has taken three years to realize.

“We have now brought all our Beauty programmes in line across all three campuses,” she says. “UCOL has recognized skills the beauty industry wants from graduates and have responded to that.”

UCOL Wairarapa has operated its beauty courses since 2000 and Whanganui UCOL introduced the Certificate in Beauty Services last year and launched a Diploma in Beauty Therapy this year.

It is envisaged that all campuses will offer the Diploma in Beauty Therapy by the start of Semester One next year.

Palmerston North’s Beauty programme supports three part-time teaching staff members who all work in their respective areas of the industry.

The facility will be officially opened on Thursday 19 May.
