Wellington school boy headhunted for MyCube Internet Entrepreneur internship in Singapore
In July Michael Moore-Jones, a Year 12 student at Scots College will be packing his bags for Singapore. Moore-Jones has been selected as one of just 30 young internet entrepreneurs aged 16-25 years, world-wide, to participate in the MyCube Digital Life Academy, a 6-week internship program that runs from 4 July - 14 August 2011.
”This is an awesome opportunity – MyCube is a company with principles I really believe in,” said Moore-Jones, who was headhunted for the program based on a blog post he wrote in January, on the future of social networks. “I’ll be missing school to attend, but it’s an opportunity I can’t pass up. I’m looking forward to finding out who the other 29 interns will be,” he said.
“We’re delighted for Michael,” said Graeme Yule, Headmaster of Scots College. “He’s one of our high achieving International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma students, and a very talented young man. In December last year he started up a popular blog entitled ‘They Don’t Teach You This In School,’ aimed at connecting young people via the internet with inspiring professionals,” mused Yule. “I’d tend to agree with Michael – we can’t teach you everything in school, but we can certainly give you a great start.”
MyCube is the world’s first Social Exchange™, allowing you to store and share your information, updates and content with others - but on your terms. You could call it the next evolution in social networking. MyCube is a startup based in Singapore and will be launching their service to the world in June.
”The internet is the future, and we need to ensure the key issues of privacy and user control are properly developed. Facebook is going in the wrong direction,” believes Moore-Jones.
Organizers said of Michael’s application; The article that Michael submitted for consideration demonstrates exactly what we are looking for in the Academy interns - a strong understanding of the internet and social media, a conviction of the need for us to have control over our digital lives, and the ability to express these views in a clear and engaging manner.

Participants in the MyCube Digital Life Academy Internship programme will become an integral part of the MyCube team and learn first-hand what it takes to succeed as an internet entrepreneur. The internship includes a free round-trip airfare, housing, and $3,000 Singapore dollars to spend as they wish.
