FedEx Express/Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge Program Aims to Educate Young People about Entrepreneurship, Teamwork and Global Trade
AUCKLAND, June 14, 2011— This weekend 74
of New Zealand’s budding young entrepreneurs will converge
In Auckland to compete in the FedEx Express/Junior
Achievement International Trade Challenge (FedEx/JA ITC).
The students, aged between 16-19 years, are coming from as
far South as Orepuki to Kaitaia in Northland, to try and win
one of six places to represent New Zealand in the FedEx/JA
ITC Asia-Pacific final regional final held in Bangkok,
Thailand in August.
This is the third consecutive year, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, will help educate and inspire New Zealand’s outstanding high school students in this year’s FedEx Express /Junior Achievement International Trade Challenge (FedEx/JA ITC).
The regional heat will be opened by Auckland Coucillor, Michale Goudie, at Massey University’s Albany Campus on Saturday June 18, with New Zealand’s 2010 Entrepreneur of The Year, Tim Alpe of JUCY, being a guest speaker who will inspire and share his valuable insight from his business experiences to the Students.. The two-day competition will be comprised of 74 students competing for six places to represent New Zealand in Bangkok, Thailand this August. Before heading to Bangkok, the six finalists will participate in a two-day training workshop in early August at the FedEx facility in Auckland to prepare them for the Asia-Pacific regional final.
The program aims to foster business knowledge through practical teamwork exercises, allowing students to gain first-hand experience in world trade, enhance their knowledge of product distribution, promotion and sales and develop traits in competition, teamwork, risk-taking and self-confidence.
Kim Garner, managing director, FedEx Australasia says the FedEx/JA ITC is a meaningful and practical educational platform to help New Zealand students achieve their fullest potential by exposing them to the benefits of entrepreneurship, business and international trade.
“We are thrilled to be moving into our third year sponsoring this meaningful program. We have seen creative, fresh and exciting ideas presented by students in previous years and we are looking forward to more innovative and well-thought out international market entries from the students this year,” said Mr. Garner.
The International Trade Challenge is in its fifth year in Asia Pacific and this is the third year FedEx is sponsoring the program in New Zealand. FedEx sponsorship has provided 4,344 students in nine Asia Pacific countries, including 152 students from 120 schools in New Zealand, with invaluable insight into global trade.
