Kylie faces up for final in national beauty awards
UCOL Beauty Therapy Lecturer Kylie Love faces up to her competition at the New Zealand Beauty Awards in Auckland this weekend.
Kylie has been selected as a finalist in the Beauty Therapist of the Year category.
Kylie was shortlisted for the award after submitting an application outlining her experience and qualifications. She believes she is the only finalist who is both teaching at tertiary level while also working in the industry.
“The beauty industry develops new products and techniques at such a rapid rate. It is important for me, and therefore my students, to keep up with current practices,” says Kylie.
The panel will announce the winner at the awards ceremony held on Saturday night. The annual awards are held in conjunction with the NZ Beauty Expo, a weekend showcase of NZ's professional beauty, spa and hair suppliers, seminars and guest speakers.
Kylie trained at the NZ Institute of Electrolysis and Beauty Therapy in Palmerston North. She spent five years working in the industry before seeking a beauty therapy lecturing position at UCOL in the newly established Certificate in Beauty Services programme.
She teaches the Certificate in Beauty Services (Level 4) programme while working part time as the Manager of Hiwinui Body and Day Spa.
Associate Head of School of Tourism, Hospitality and Continuing Education Margot Ferrick says, “Kylie is new to UCOL this year and brings with her a wide range of industry experience. The students really enjoy her classes and she is a fantastic role model.”
The Certificate in Beauty Services also includes the National Certificate in Cosmetology, the National Certificate in Beautician and the National Certificate in Nail Augmentation.
