Forum for the Future returns for 2011

Unitec is once again hosting its Forum for the Future series, lively and thought-provoking panel discussions that bring together industry leaders, academics, students and the public.

Facilitated by well-known journalist and business commentator Rod Oram, the four-evening series will run for four consecutive weeks, starting on Thursday 21 July.

Programme


Creating Resilient Communities - Thursday 21 July, 6.30pm

Auckland faces significant growth pressure: 800,000 people are expected to arrive in Auckland in the next 20 years. Where will they live? How will they travel around the city? What will happen to Auckland's unique landscapes?

Includes panellist Ken Smith, renowned landscape architect from New York.

Championing Pacific Languages - Thursday 28 July, 6.30pm

This session looks at the current direction of Pacific/bilingual language education and the impact of government cuts, and seeks answers from the policy makers.

Includes panellist Sandra Kailahi, TV producer and presenter.

Enriching Maori Entrepreneurship - Thursday 4 August, 6.30pm

Maori and iwi are recognised as playing an important role in the New Zealand economy, now and in the years ahead. What leadership is required and who will provide it?

Includes panellist Pita Sharples, MP and Co-leader of the Maori Party.

Re-inventing Public Broadcasting - Thursday 11 August, 6.30pm

A variety of lively, informed and expert speakers will debate the importance of an inclusive public sphere, and give their opinions on “Who cares?”.

Includes panellist Russell Brown, well-known NZ media commentator.

The Forum for the Future series is held at the Department of Performing and Screen Arts Theatre, Building 6, Entry 1, Carrington Road, Mt Albert campus (click here to view map).
